TMJ and chiropractic

How many of us have a popping or clicking sound when we open and close our mouths? You go to eat a hotdog this summer and your jaw locks. Chewing gives you a head ache. TMJ pain is big for many. It keeps you from sleeping, it can make your ears ring at times. This is something you need to get treated before it leads to more complications like jaw degenerations. Chiropractic is one of the few therapies that can help reduce the pain and even realign the jaw for proper tracking. In my practice I have found several treatments to work very well. I know when we all think of muscles no one thinks of facial muscles. Just like biceps and hamstrings can have trigger points and muscle soreness so can the muscles of the face. I usually like to use Nimmo trigger point work to help relax not only the external muscles of the face such as the temporalis and masseter but even the pterygoid muscles which aid in side-to-side and back-and-forth movement of the jaw. After aiding in relaxing these muscles I will check the spin and adjust the upper cervical as well as do muscle work to any neck muscles which will put tension on the TMJ. If need be you can then be referred back to your orthodontist so he can fit you with a night brace which will keep your jaw relaxed and in neutral position as you sleep.  You no longer have to Deal with that annoying TMJ pain. Your chiropractor can be effective in helping you treat it.  Dr. Pietro Baio DC Performance Edge Chiropractic, P.C. 7112 Ave U Brooklyn, NY 11234 (917)-309-5464 DrBaio@PEChiro.com PEChiro.com
