Demarco Wins At Nicotra Ballroom

Last night in front of a huge home crowd. Demarco's Gym owner, "Lil" Nicky Demarco put on a show at the Nicotra Ballroom. The fights were promoted by Greg Cohen Promotion in conjunction with the Nicotra family. The original card had plenty of local Staten Island, Brooklyn, and NJ natives on board. As with most fight card several boxers pulled out with injuries, weight issues and also contract issues. The Five fights we did get to see were entertaining as well as a great show case for the future of Boxing in Staten Island.

Nicky, who before last night held a 3-2 record as a pro was making a comeback after 1 1/2 years out of the ring. This fight was more for the fans and natives of Staten Island. Nicky wanted to put on a show to help Cohen prove that boxing belongs in Staten Island.

Nicky's adversary for last nights event was Cesar Gonzalez, a 0-2-1 boxer coming out of Reading, PA. At first gland, based on Cesar's record you would think this was an easy fight for the Local boy. Cesar proved that records don't always show the whole picture.

In the first round Cesar came out swinging. Kid was looking for a quick KO. By the second round Nicky found his rhythm and started sticking and moving. Come the fourth and final round you could see Cesar's game plan was loosing steam and Nicky was well on his way to victory. There were even moments in the last round where Demarco was showing Paulie Malignaggi like taunting skills.
When the final Bell rang the score card read 40-35, 39-36, 39-36. This was not only a victory for Demarco, but Cohen, Nicotra, and Boxing in Staten Island.

While this may or may not be Nicky's last pro fight, I am sure he will have a huge developing the Pro Boxing scene in Staten Island.

If your ever Down by exit 4 on 440 in Staten Island, Stop by Demarco's gym and wish this Staten Island Champ all the best.
