Brooklyns New Home for MMA : Renzo Gracie Fight academy

Guys it was a long busy Weekend. Friday I went up to Mohegan Sun casino in Ct for Bellator 63. I was part of the Ringfever.com crew , but was also keeping a close eye on two fighters sponsored by my good friends over at Future Legends / The underground clown apparel. After a long ride over a scenic route I managed to get to the arena just in time to witness Ben Sanders working his Bjj and winning to get to the next level of the welterweight tournament by unanimous decision. Byran Barker won a close decision in a fight where it seemed he was having a tough time finding his range. David Rickets had KO of that night in a match that was over before I blinked. And Karl Amoussou showed us why he is a force to be reckoned with in the welterweight division buy using his bjj skills to submit an over his head Chris Lozano. The atmosphere was great. Stands were packed. And seems Bellator is about as excited to come back to Mohegan as I am.
Saturday brought me out to the far reaches of Long Island. Heavy hitters boxing gym was the location for Aggressive Combat Sports 6. The card was packed with 13 great matches of all different types. They ranged from Boxing all the way to sports jujitsu. Jeff Marsh and the guys at Edge Hoboken brought 3 fighters for Muay thai matched. The last of the three , Gerald "lil bomb" javier , dominated in the first round and had his opponent quit in the corner before the second round. It was an honor and pleasure to once again be the Guest Judge for this event.

Finally Sunday came, and while most where enjoying the day and resting, I was still up and running. My last stop of the weekend was the new Renzo Gracie Fight Academy. I arrived to a packed house, the scent of a freshly finished gym, and the feeling of excitement. While Dana White still fights to bring MMA to New York, Renzo had the vision to build one of the best fight gyms in the country right in my back yard. After walking through the 15000 Sq/ft of gym space and being in amazement that this day had finally come, I could think of only one thing. Renzo has built the MMA equivalent of boxing's Gleason's Gym right here in GreenPoint. The only thing missing and differentiating the two is the history. I know with Renzo involved coaches like Rafael "Sapo" Natal, Gustavo Costa, and  Andy Singh, this will soon be the place of legends.

Stay tuned to this page for more info on the official Grand Opening of the fight academy. It will be a day not to forget for MMA fans all over Brooklyn and the rest of New York.
